Wicetec keeps wind turbines spinning with Labkotec’s ice detectors

Finnish company Wicetec Oy provides wind turbines with a solution that makes frozen blades a thing of past. Instead of removing ice, the system anticipates freezing conditions and starts heating the blades in advance. This avoids loss of production efficiency and, at worst, stopping the entire plant.

The 12 systems delivered to the harsh conditions of Canada, and the following 15 more in 2019, require quality that lasts in the northern latitudes. Therefore Wicetec has utilized Labkotec’s ice detectors from the very beginning.

Looking to the future with confidence

The collaboration between Wicetec and Labkotec dates back to the 90’s, when the technology was developed at VTT. The oldest still running system was installed more than 20 years ago. In addition to high-quality and weatherproofness, Wicetec highlights Labkotec’s smooth service.

”When we started Wicetec, we wanted to keep our partnership going, because Labkotec’s equipment works exceptionally well in icy conditions. Our projects are almost always urgent and cannot afford to wait. That’s why it’s great that Labkotec is able to serve us with fast delivery times. Despite this, the quality is excellent and we haven’t had to spend time dealing with reclamations”, says Mr. Petteri Antikainen, founder and CEO of Wicetec Oy.

Wicetec’s Project Manager Mr. Lasse Hietikko appreciates the performance of the devices and the easiness of configuration.

“When ordering from Labkotec, we know we are getting tested and proven technology, so we feel confident about starting this new project. The future of our industry in general looks bright, as the need for wind power is now a recognized fact, and the market is growing rapidly”, says Petteri.

So it’s great to continue towards cleaner future. Good job Finland!
